Peacebuilders for Afghanistan
Besmillah Sakhizada - Afghanistan
When I returned to Afghanistan after college, I started work with Future Generations Afghanistan participating in a pilot project in Bamyan province, led by Dr. Carl Taylor. The project brought Afghan women together in women’s only workshops to share their pregnancy histories. Known as community health workers, these women found new answers to prevent more maternal deaths. The women continued their work by starting Family Health Action Groups (FHAG). This resulted in the Ministry of Health adding the FHAG approach to its community-based health strategy and implementing it in nine other provinces. Now this project is being expanded to Nangarhar province. This PeaceCast calls attention to the lasting impacts upon Afghan families who continue to suffer from suicide bombings. |

Maryam Safi
I come from a war country where women have been deprived in all aspects of society. Afghanistan needs peace, and women in my country need opportunities to be engaged in society and work for peace. My goal is to empower women in order to empower my country. As women form half a society, it is impossible to bring peace without including women in important aspects of society.
My field of study at Kabul University is Islamic Law, and my aim is to work for democracy and to transfer the real provisions of Islam to my people, especially women, as Islam has given unmitigated rights to women. This PeaceCast is dedicated to the Street Children of Kabul. |
