Peacebuilders for Kenya
Stanley Nderitu
Times are hard. We face ethnic violent conflict, and many children do not attend school. Periodically, conflict leads to displacement, loss of property, and death. I started to volunteer as a social worker with organizations that give humanitarian aid to my community. With like-minded colleagues, I eventually formed the Youth, Governance, and Environmental Programme to offer a homegrown solution to problems that perpetuate the poverty cycle—such as illiteracy, poor infrastructure, and unemployment.
